Trip 1: South Africa
For six weeks, we had the opportunity to serve in South Africa alongside a missionary family with TCE Missions, living in the “bush” in the Limpopo region. During our time there, we built meaningful relationships, experienced life in the village, and witnessed firsthand how God is moving through the local church and community.
One of the highlights of the trip was Brandon discipling two men who are currently training to become pastors within the next few years. One especially powerful moment came when they went door to door sharing the gospel. Though they started out nervous, after praying with people and being welcomed into homes, their fear quickly turned into excitement and confidence. Watching that transformation was unforgettable. Brandon also had the opportunity to preach several Sundays for the first time at local church services, which was such a meaningful part of the trip.
I had the joy of teaching a Bible-based ESL class to villagers, where we studied parables from Matthew and talked about the Kingdom of Heaven. The students were incredibly engaged, and it was such a gift to be part of their learning. They even picked up a few Alabama phrases like “y’all” and “Roll Tide” along the way! On our final Sunday, I also had the opportunity to teach Sunday school, which was a really special way to end our time there.
We were so blessed to experience God’s beautiful creation and see African animals in the wild—it was truly a dream come true to see elephants, giraffes, zebras, and so many more up close in their natural habitat. It was such a powerful reminder that the Creator of the universe is so intentional, creative, and worthy of awe.
Before leaving, we witnessed one of the regular attendees at the weekly theology class give his life to Jesus. It was such a beautiful reminder that God is at work in Limpopo, and we are incredibly grateful to have played even a small part in what He is doing there.
