For 10 days, we traveled from Lima into the Andes Mountains, serving in six different villages. We set up medical clinics, carried supplies, loved on families, and experienced the beauty of Peru. We went about five days without a shower, slept on floors wherever we could set up clinics, and bundled up through cold nights with sleeping pads and blankets. We traveled as high as 15,000 feet elevation, where walking up a couple of steps left us completely out of breath.

Brandon deserves a special shoutout for driving a stick shift through some of the craziest mountain roads I’ve ever seen — steep cliffs, no guardrails, tiny roads, and switchbacks that made your stomach drop. It was an adventure!

 

But the medical clinics were incredible. Each day we saw around 100-150 patients, and the gratitude from these families was overwhelming. They thanked us constantly, but the truth is, we felt just as blessed to be there. One little girl especially impacted us. She came to the clinic with a serious wound on her leg that had been there for months. Thankfully, we were able to provide wound care supplies, treatment, and education for her family to continue caring for it at home.Since returning home, we’ve received updates and pictures, and her wound is already healing beautifully. Moments like that are exactly why we go. We also had the opportunity to deliver donated medical supplies to the local hospital in Ocros. Seeing all the equipment and supplies laid out was incredible. Items donated by people back home will now help provide care in a community with limited resources. It was a beautiful reminder that every prayer, every donation, and every person who supports these trips plays a part.

Peru was absolutely amazing. The mountains were breathtaking, the people were incredible, and God showed up in so many ways. But the biggest lesson I brought home? The things we spend so much time worrying about beforehand are often the very things God has already taken care of.

He was there before we arrived, and He was faithful through every single moment.
